TRAVEL INSURANCE

It is highly advisable that you obtain comprehensive Travel Insurance.

We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive Travel Insurance (Cancellation and Medical Insurance) to protect against cancellation fees and additional travel expenses or financial default that may incur before, after or during the trip.

There are 3 types of insurance you should consider under a comprehensive plan: trip cancellation insurance, travel health insurance, and medical evacuation insurance. These will cover different situations and may give you financial peace of mind, as well as allowing for safe and healthy travel.

Please contact your medical provider, airline or travel agent to obtain a policy for this trip. This is important.

Important: Please make sure you have your medical insurance policy provider contact information with you, before leaving for Israel.

PASSPORT & VISA

Please check with your local Embassy or Consulate to see what is required for you to obtain a ‘Tourist Visa’ for Israel as soon as you register. Below is information provided by the State of Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Tourist Visa requirements for all countries worldwide:

Valid Passport

Be sure that your passport will not expire during your stay in Israel!

All visitors to Israel must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date they are departing the country.

Tourist Visa

U.S. citizens and most countries may use their passport to enter Israel for tourism purposes for stays of up to 90 days without a visa.

See countries list:
visaguide.world/asia/israel-visa/who-needs-a-visa-for-israel
www.touristisrael.com/do-i-need-a-visa-to-visit-israel/33066

People with no nationality must hold a valid laissez passer, as well as a visa back to the country that issued it.

Visitors are entitled to remain in Israel up to three months from the date of their arrival, in accordance with the conditions of the visa issued to them.

Many countries have a Visa Waiver Program with Israel which allows their citizens to visit Israel without a visa arranged in advance. Before embarking on a trip, visitors desiring to stop in Israel on their way to other destinations must check if they need a prearranged tourist visa. All Visa Waiver Program travelers must present a machine-readable passport at the port of entry in order to enter Israel without a prearranged visa; otherwise, a visa is required. This applies to tourists arriving with a passage card from countries with a Waiver Program.

Passport Stamping

Passport stamping at Ben Gurion Airport to enter Israel has been replaced by the issuing of an entry visa card containing all your personal information on a piece of paper. Keep it and carry it with you.

Passport Safety

  • Keep your passport in your purse or a secure pocket where it cannot be seen; never pack your passport in your suitcase.
  • Leave a copy of the inside information page at home, another copy in your suitcase and your original passport with you or in a secure place.

AIRFARE

Most international airlines operate flights to Israel.

Your flight arrival to Israel and departure should be to/from BEN GURION AIRPORT, Tel Aviv, Israel (code: TLV)

EL AL operates many direct flights from the United States, Europe, the Far East, and Africa.

Other Israeli airlines such as Arkia and Israir operate flights from central locations in Europe. There are no direct flights to Israel from distant locations such as Australia or South Africa, or from countries that have no diplomatic relations with Israel. It is therefore a good idea to reserve a connecting flight from these places, or to arrive in Europe and then purchase a ticket to Israel.

MONEY

Your home currency may be exchanged at the airport, your hotel, one of the local money changers, or at one of the many ATMs throughout Israel that will give you Shekels for your transaction. Exchange rates vary depending on what you use in the exchange: cash, check, travelers check or credit card. Be sure to check with your hotel for the exchange rates as it can fluctuate daily. At all larger stores and restaurants you may use either your credit card or debit card.

  • U.S. dollar currency is widely accepted everywhere in Israel. Generally U.S. currency is accepted for small purchases. The exchange rate is approximately U.S. $1 to about 3.50 shekels. You can use U.S. dollar currency for small purchases, and credit cards for larger ones. Bring mostly $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills. Do not bring $50 bills or larger. Bring a lot of smaller bills, not coins. (By packing money in bundles of 15 $1’s with 2 $5’s, each bundle totalling $25, you could easily take the necessary amount with you on each day and never have to exchange money!)
  • Major credit cards such as Visa or MasterCard are excellent to have in case of an emergency and for buying more expensive items. They provide a good exchange rate and receipt. Always ask for the carbon, if used, along with your customer copy. Before you depart overseas, please notify your bank or credit card provider of your schedule, and that you will be making purchases out of the country.
  • We do not recommend the use of traveler’s checks, as you may experience difficulty using and/or cashing them. In addition, banks usually charge a handling fee when cashing traveler’s checks. Major credit cards are recommended for purchases.

VAT TAX

Israel has a standard VAT (Value Added Tax) tax on all purchases. You may receive a refund on Israel’s VAT tax if your purchase is made at a shop authorized by the Israel Tax Authority and the Ministry of Tourism to participate in the refunding arrangement (a sticker noting the shop’s participation should be placed on the door or window of the shop), and you receive a special VAT invoice (“Refund Invoice”). The price of the purchase, including VAT, (per tax invoice) must exceed $100 US. The goods purchased must be intended for your personal use only and are in non-commercial quantities. The goods purchased do not include: food, drink, or tobacco products (VAT will not be refunded for those goods). When departing from Ben Gurion Airport, you must go to the VAT refund counter and present both your tax form and the item(s) purchased along with your passport and airline ticket. Refund requests are only accepted in Israel, prior to your departure as refunds will not be sent to you abroad.

Allow time for this process when departing at the airport. It might take a while.

TIPS (Gratuities) & BARGAINING

In Israel it is customary to tip primarily in restaurants. When the bill does not include service, a 12% tip should be added to the payment. No tipping is required for the group meals that are inclusive of the tour (BLD). In hotels, tip the bellhop or any other service provider. Taxi drivers are generally NOT tipped.

Bargaining is acceptable in Israel, but not everywhere. In the open-air markets, do not hesitate to bargain as it is part of the experience and doing so can lower the price. Storekeepers are legally required to display prices and for the most part are not open to bargaining. This is also true of restaurants and public transportation. Passengers are advised to ask cab drivers to turn on the meter, thus avoiding unnecessary haggling.

LUGGAGE

  • Please arrive with one (1) suitcase per person only and one carry-on!
  • On tour buses in Israel, luggage storage space is limited. Only one suitcase per person will be stored in the luggage compartment of the bus.
  • Inside the bus, storage space is limited to the under-seat space in front of you and the shallow space above your head.
  • Porters are tipped based on one suitcase per person. You are responsible for additional pieces at all times.
  • Always pack fewer clothes than you think you need.
  • Include a closable canvas bag inside your suitcase, in case you need extra luggage for items you have purchased.

PACKING, CLOTHING & THINGS TO TAKE

  • For touring wear loose, comfortable cottons or other lightweight clothing that can be layered.
  • Dress in Israel is casual, but be prepared at tour sites to cover your shoulders and arms. Some sites will require those wearing shorts to cover their legs. Please, no tank-tops. It is appropriate to have at least the upper arms covered (T-shirt length), and pants and skirts to at least the knee. Bare midriffs are not appropriate for this tour. At some sites entrance is denied to people wearing shorts or sleeveless tops.
  • Note to women when touring Jerusalem: since Muslim women are covered from head to foot, some Muslim men may think that Western women’s clothing is “loose and immoral”. The same applies for Jewish Orthodox men. For this reason we ask that you dress modestly at all times: no shorts or sleeveless shirts. Also, a head-covering is required for visiting holy places. A few of the monasteries and holy sites we will be visiting during the tour require that women wear a skirt or some sort of skirt-like clothing. Due to the nature of hiking, walking, etc., many women choose not to bring skirts. We suggest you bring a large enough scarf that can be turned into a skirt over your pants, and used on your head if needs be in some places, which are fewer compared to the times you need a skirt-type outfit. That would be a good way to be covered regarding the need for a skirt. That way you can be comfortable, wearing pants or shorts.
  • No matter what the season in Jerusalem or Tiberias, the evenings can be cool due to the elevation, so a coat or light jacket is always advisable.
  • Comfortable walking shoes are a must! Include a more formal pair of shoes for dinners at the hotel. High heels are NOT recommended for women. Bring sandals and water shoes for the Dead Sea, beach or pools.
  • Be sure to include: swimsuit, waterproof shoes/slip-ons/sandals, small flashlight, travel packages of tissues, sleeping mask, earplugs, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, moistened towelettes, washcloth, pocket size tissues (for restrooms), hand & body lotion (dry climate), notebook, pen, highlighter, compact folding umbrella in case of rain.
  • A sun hat will be provided to you as a gift.
  • Extra film and batteries for camera with protective case for x-ray machines.
  • Adaptor (220 volts) for electrical appliances.
  • Prescription medicines in original container.
  • Calling cards or cell phone or smartphone.
  • Money (more than you think you will need, in small bills).
  • Do not pack: valuables, including items of sentimental value. Leave them at home.
  • Though Israel is a small country, it has a widely diverse climate from one section to another. We recommend checking the weather forecast before you arrive in Israel.
  • Note: Some of our attendees are sensitive to chemically based perfumes of any kind being worn. We are asking if possible that no perfume be applied during the duration of this trip. Essential oils are much more preferable. Thank you for your understanding. It will greatly enhance the comfort of those that are sensitive.

VACCINATIONS

See COVID-19: Travel restrictions to Israel

PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES

  • Be sure to pack enough of your prescription medications to last through the tour. Pack your medicine in the original bottle and bring some in your carry-on bag.
  • Bring an extra week’s supply, your doctor’s phone number, and a copy of the generic names for each.
  • Have your doctor write an Israel-equivalent prescription for life-dependent medications. Not all prescriptions are interchangeable. Your doctor will be able to advise you.
  • If you are allergic to any medicines, please keep a list of these with your passport.
  • In Israel you may need a prescription for medicine that is sold over the counter in other countries.
  • You should pack some aspirin, antacids, and similar items you use at home that you feel you might need on the tour.
  • If you suffer from motion sickness, bring along any medication you use to prevent this on the bus and plane.

TIPS TO REDUCE JET LAG

  • Get ample rest before your flight departure, and drink plenty of water and fluids.
  • Go to bed and get up at normal times for the new time zone. Your body will adjust quicker if you do not stay up all night or sleep during the day.

TIPS FOR THE FLIGHT

  • Wear comfortable clothing on the flight. Dress casually; wear loose-fitting clothes.
  • Bring a jacket and inflatable neck pillow for long overseas flight.
  • Drink plenty of fluids while traveling. Avoid coffee and alcohol.
  • Stand up and stretch several times during long flights. Stretch and contract your calf muscles with frequent foot exercises.

VOLTAGE

In Israel the power sockets are of type H. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. If your home country is 110 volts you will need to bring with you an adapter that your appliance can plug into. Be sure your adapter is for the Middle East and not Europe. Though they look similar, they are different.

PREPAID PHONE/SIM CARDSCELL PHONES & SMARTPHONES

  • Prepaid phone cards can be purchased at the hotel gift shops and airport.
  • If you have a cell phone or smartphone, check with your local provider for international service.
  • A few weeks before departure, you can order a cell phone or smartphone to rent for use in Israel from www.israelphones.com

IsraelPhones is the only company with a store at Ben Gurion International Airport.

Other companies: www.talknsave.net    www.call-israel.com    www.cellomobile.com

COMPUTERS, LAPTOPS, iPADS

  • You can bring your own laptop or iPad, or use the public computer in the lobbies of most hotels in Israel.
  • To use your own devices, it is best to buy a small adapter plug (220 volts, for the Middle East) to put on the end of your electrical cord, so it will fit into the sockets in Israel. This will save your battery life – either in the hotel or elsewhere – and keep you online. Purchase the adapter plug for about $5 at a travel store or on-line – it’s easier to buy them beforehand.
  • There is usually a fee of about $10 per day for WIFI access in hotel rooms. Some hotels allow you to use your laptop in their lobby or designated areas for wireless connection – either complimentary or for a small fee.
  • Ben Gurion Airport has free WIFI.

BUSES & RESTROOMS

  • The deluxe touring motor coaches are air-conditioned, and will accommodate approximately 50 passengers each.
  • Be on time and be prepared to rotate seats on the bus.
  • Bottled water is available on the bus at a cost of $1.00 per bottle.
  • In Israel tour buses do not have restrooms. However, restrooms are available in most sites that we will be visiting, and travel distances between sites are relatively short.

DAY TOUR DEPARTURE & RETURN

Usually, we will depart the hotel between 7:00-8:00AM and return in the evening or late evening. Your tour guide will announce the sightseeing schedule and a wake-up call for each day’s itinerary.

LOST ITEMS

  • Double check your belongings before leaving the plane, hotels and buses. We cannot assume responsibility for lost items.
  • Put your name and a contact number on your belongings. You can include our company information too.

WEATHER IN ISRAEL

Though Israel is a small country, it has a widely diverse climate from one region to another. We recommend checking the weather forecast before you arrive in Israel.

TIME IN ISRAEL

Israel is 7 hours ahead of US Eastern Standard time, 10 hours from the West Coast and 12 hours from Hawaii. Current time in Israel

SECURITY CHECK (UPON DEPARTING ISRAEL)

Passengers must arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure time.
Passengers arriving at the airport must first undergo a security check before approaching the counter of the airline they are flying. Passengers and their luggage are inspected by airport personnel with modern security equipment. They will then check in their luggage and receive a boarding pass and seat number.

  • Have all travel documents readily available at check-in, placed in your carry-on or purse, NOT in your luggage.
  • Be prepared to submit yourself to a body check by metal detector or by physical means if necessary.
  • Be prepared to open all luggage for inspection at check-in. All packages, including gifts, may be opened at this time.
  • Do not lock your CARRY-ON bag in any way, because in Israel the check of the carry-on is not done in front of the passenger. So if the carry-on bag is locked and security personnel request to check it, they will have to take you aside to open it.
  • Do not accept anything presented to you unless you have inspected the contents.
  • Please do not say or do anything during security checks that may cause delay in departure.

TOUR DATES, DELAYS, ROUTE CHANGES AND CANCELLATION

Organizing the tour has substantial financial commitments, contracts, and conditions with many of the tour suppliers in Israel (Hotels, Buses, Venues, Parks, Sites, Restaurants, Operators, Drivers, Guides, and other services). The schedule is established over one year or more before the tour, so it is possible that route changes, delays, postponements, or new tour dates may become necessary if there are circumstances beyond our control, such as unexpected weather conditions, political turmoil, war, pandemic and/or similar causes that may require changes to the itinerary. We and our providers reserve the right to cancel or postpone the tour prior to departure, in which case the refund policy is as follows:

  • If the tour is canceled 150 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you have made to us will be refunded minus a 10% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 120-149 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you have made to us will be refunded minus a 20% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 90-119 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you have made to us will be refunded minus a 30% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 60-89 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you have made to us will be refunded minus a 50% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 30-59 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you made to us will be refunded minus a 60% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 15-29 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you made to us will be refunded minus a 70% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled less than 15 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you made to us will be refunded minus a 90% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.

In the unforeseeable event that the tour was to be canceled while the tour is taking place, due to a pandemic or other causes beyond our control, no reimbursement of unutilized days of the tour may be returned to the participants – as these fees would be non reimbursed to Shaloha Productions.

Note: Marilyn Harper has been traveling the world for over 30 years and has rarely never missed a tour she was scheduled for and committed to. In the unforeseeable situation due to circumstances beyond her control that will prevent her from participating in the tour, we will do everything in our power to reschedule the tour to a different date; however, if we are not able to do so and the tour is cancelled, the same cancellation policy fees above will be applied.

If the tour is postponed to another date, any payments you have made will be applied to the new tour dates. If you are not able to attend the new rescheduled tour dates, the same cancellation policy fees above will be applied.

You waive the right to any further claims for compensation or damages, for any loss, consequential damage, expenses, or loss of time or inconvenience which may result from such cancellation. These terms, conditions, and policies may not be challenged nor negotiated. Herein you make a full agreement.

We will always do everything in our power to postpone a tour rather than cancel. Also, we will always strive to refund you as much of your funds as possible, taking everything into consideration at the time of cancelation. It is highly advisable that you obtain comprehensive Travel Insurance to recuperate any losses you may incur.
