Foreign travelers must show proof of a valid private medical health insurance policy, which will cover the cost of treatment for COVID-19.

We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive Travel Insurance (Cancellation and Medical Insurance) to protect against cancellation fees and additional travel expenses or financial default that may incur before, after, or during the trip.

There are 3 types of insurance you should consider under a comprehensive plan: trip cancellation insurance, travel health insurance, and medical evacuation insurance. These will cover different situations and may give you financial peace of mind, as well as allowing for safe and healthy travel.

Please contact your medical provider, airline or travel agent to obtain a policy for this trip. This is important.

Important: Please make sure you have your medical insurance policy provider contact information with you, before leaving for Egypt.

MONEY

  • All participants are requested to write clearly their name in Full (rather than just sign) on all transactions and bills for any extra requests during their stay at hotels and cruises, to avoid any confusion while settling bills upon checking out or departures.
  • Your home currency may be exchanged at the airport, your hotel, one of the local money changers, or at one of the many ATMs throughout Egypt.
  • In Egypt the Egyptian currency is called Egyptian pounds. The exchange rates vary depending on what you use in the exchange: cash, check, traveler’s check or credit card. Be sure to check with your hotel for the exchange rate as it can fluctuate daily. At all larger stores and restaurants you may use either your credit card or debit card.
  • Please check Visa or MasterCard on the web before departure for the current rate of exchange.
  • Major credit cards such as Visa or MasterCard or your ATM card are excellent to have in case of an emergency and for buying more expensive items. They provide a good exchange rate and receipt. Always ask for the carbon, if used, along with your customer copy. Important: before you depart overseas, please notify your bank or credit card provider of your schedule, and that you will be making purchases out of the country.
  • We do not recommend the use of traveler’s checks, as you may experience difficulty using and/or cashing them. In addition, banks usually charge a handling fee when cashing traveler’s checks. Major credit cards are recommended for purchases.

VAT TAX

Egypt does not have VAT Tax on purchases.

TIPS (Gratuities) & BARGAINING

In Egypt for your personal meals it is customary to tip in restaurants. When the bill does not include service charge, a 12% tip should be added to the payment. In hotels, tip the bellhop or any other service provider who helps you. Taxi drivers are generally NOT tipped. Passengers are advised to ask cab drivers to turn on the meter, thus avoiding unnecessary haggling.

Egyptians love to bargain! You will find vendors at the temple sites before you enter, and on the streets and in street markets. Advice if you want to purchase something: first ask for their best price and then offer 40% off the price. They will counter-offer. If you really want it, take the offer or walk away. They may come down with a better offer. This is a good time to take it or walk away for good. Enjoy the process but do not engage with vendors who are offensive. Also many of them will say “See you later!”, and if you say “Yes” they will find you! So, smile and keep on walking. Also you may want to shop in a group, with others who are good shoppers. Then once you have settled on the best price, any of you can buy the item at that same price. This saves a lot of time.

LUGGAGE

  • Please arrive with up to two (2) suitcases only per person and one (1) carry-on!
  • On tour buses in Egypt, luggage storage space is limited. Only one suitcase per person will be stored in the luggage compartment of the bus.
  • Inside the bus, storage space is limited to the under-seat space in front of you and the shallow space above your head.
  • You are responsible for additional pieces at all times.
  • Porters are tipped for all group transfers of luggage. For Private porter’s assistance the tip to the porter helping you is on you.
  • Always pack fewer clothes than you think you need.
  • Include a closable canvas bag inside your suitcase, in case you need extra luggage for items you have purchased. Be aware that many airlines will charge for overweight bags and more than one checked bag and one carry-on.

PACKING, CLOTHING & THINGS TO TAKE

  • For touring wear loose, comfortable cottons or other lightweight clothing that can be layered.
  • Dress in Egypt is casual, but be prepared at tour sites to cover your shoulders and arms. Please, no tank-tops. It is appropriate to have at least the upper arms covered (T-shirt length), and pants and skirts to at least the knee. Bare midriffs are not appropriate for this tour. At some sites entrance is denied to people wearing shorts or sleeveless tops. It is always good to pack a scarf to cover your arms or your head when it is hot. Pack a light waterproof jacket for cool evenings on the Nile Cruise.
  • Comfortable walking shoes are a must! Please break them in before you come to Egypt. Include a more formal pair of shoes for dinners at the hotel. High heels are NOT recommended for women. Bring sandals and water shoes for the pools. There will be lots of sand, so on tours open sandals may be hard to walk in.
  • Be sure to include: backpack, swimsuit, water shoes, small flashlight, travel packages of tissues, sleeping mask, earplugs, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, moistened towelettes, washcloth, pocket size tissues (for restrooms), hand & body lotion (dry climate), notebook, pens, highlighter, and notebook, extra film and batteries for camera with a protective case for x-ray machines, compact folding umbrella in case of rain.
  • Money (more than you think you will need, in small bills).
  • Do not pack: valuables, including items of sentimental value. Leave them at home.
  • Important note about visits to sites: all participants are advised to ensure that they are aware that certain sites during the different options may not be suitable to those with claustrophobia, back problems or heart conditions. Please seek advice from your guides and Travels Key accompanying staff during the tour.

VOLTAGE

Electricity in Egypt is 220 Volts, alternating at 50 Hertz. If you travel to Egypt with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter adaptor (220 Volts). Plug adapters and outlets in Egypt generally accept 1 type of plug: (two round pins). We recommend a universal adapter and converter kit.

VACCINATIONS

None are required for entry into Egypt.

PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES

  • Be sure to pack enough of your prescription medications to last through the tour. Pack your medicine in the original bottle and bring some in your carry-on bag.
  • Bring an extra week’s supply, your doctor’s phone number, and a copy of the generic names for each.
  • Have your doctor write an Egyptian-equivalent prescription for life-dependent medications. Not all prescriptions are interchangeable. Your doctor will be able to advise you.
  • If you are allergic to any medicines, please keep a list of these with your passport.
  • In Egypt you may need a prescription for medicine that is sold over the counter in other countries.
  • You should pack some aspirin, antacids, and similar items you use at home that you feel you might need on the tour.
  • If you suffer from motion sickness, bring along any medication you use to prevent this on the boat, bus and plane.

PREPAID PHONE/SIM CARDSCELL PHONES & SMARTPHONES

  • The system used in Egypt is GSM. You can buy (not rent) a brand new mobile + SIM card for as low as 200 Egyptian Pounds. Or you can bring your own mobile and buy only the SIM for only 20 Egyptian Pounds, valid for 3 months before you have to re-charge! This even includes a few free minutes calls and unlimited incoming calls. If you plan to make many calls out, buy a re-charge card for 25 to 200 Egyptian Pounds, depending on your needs.
  • Mobilnil have booths everywhere, so you can probably get a rental or you can buy a SIM card for use in Egypt when you are there. Everybody in Egypt has cell phones, and Vodaphone and Mobilnil are in Egypt.
  • If you have a cell phone or smartphone, check with your local provider for international service.

COMPUTERS, LAPTOPS, iPADS

  • You can bring your own laptop or iPad, or use the public computer in the lobbies of most hotels in Egypt.
  • To use your own devices, it is best to buy a small adapter plug (220 volts, for Egypt) to put on the end of your electrical cord. This will save your battery life – either in the hotel or elsewhere – and keep you online. Purchase the adapter plug for about $5 USD at a travel store or on-line – it’s easier to buy them beforehand.
  • For some devices to work, you may need a converter with an adapter attached.
  • There is usually a fee of about $ USD per day for WIFI access in hotel rooms. Some hotels allow you to use your laptop in their lobby or designated areas for wireless connection – either complimentary or for a small fee.

BUSES & RESTROOMS

  • The deluxe touring motor coaches are air-conditioned.
  • It is important that every participant adhere to sitting in the same bus seat during the different excursions and visits to sites. Change of bus, for any reason, must be advised to the accompanying guide. This is essential for the efficient use of time, avoid unnecessary waiting and ensuring the safety of all participants.
  • No restrooms on the bus. However, restrooms are available in most sites that we will be visiting, and travel distances between sites are relatively short.

DAY TOUR DEPARTURE & RETURN

Usually, we will depart the hotel after breakfast between 8:00-9:00 AM and return in the afternoon. On a few of the days that we have early private visits to sites we will depart between 4:30-6:30 AM. Your tour guide will announce the sightseeing schedule and a wake-up call for each day’s itinerary.

LOST ITEMS

  • Double check your belongings before leaving the plane, hotels and buses. We cannot assume responsibility for lost items.
  • Put your name and a contact number on your belongings. You can include our company information too.
  • Please check your hotel safe for any valuables before your leave the room.

WEATHER IN EGYPT

October is a wonderful time to visit Egypt. The climate is ideal. The desert is not too hot, and the evening temperatures are refreshingly cool. Average highs in October can range from 23°C to 28°C (73°F to 82°F). On the Nile Cruise the temperatures can be cooler. Bring a light jacket for cool Nile breezes. Don’t forget mosquito repellent. We recommend checking the weather forecast before you leave for Egypt.

TIME IN EGYPT

SECURITY CHECK (UPON DEPARTING EGYPT)

Passengers must arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure time.
Passengers arriving at the airport must first undergo a security check before approaching the counter of the airline they are flying. Passengers and their luggage are inspected by airport personnel with modern security equipment. They will then check in their luggage and receive a boarding pass and seat number.

  • Have all travel documents readily available at check-in, placed in your carry-on or purse, NOT in your luggage.
  • Be prepared to submit yourself to a body check by metal detector or by physical means if necessary.
  • Be prepared to open all luggage for inspection at check-in. All packages, including gifts, may be opened at this time.
  • Do not lock your CARRY-ON bag in any way, because they may check the carry-on in front of the passenger.
  • Do not accept anything presented to you unless you have inspected the contents.

TOUR DATES, DELAYS, ROUTE CHANGES AND CANCELLATION

Organizing the tour has substantial financial commitments, contracts, and conditions with many of the tour suppliers in Egypt (Hotels, Chartered Boats, Chartered Flights, Coaches, Operator, and other services). The schedule is established over one year or more before the tour, so it is possible that route changes, delays, postponements, or new tour dates may become necessary if there are circumstances beyond our control, such as unexpected weather conditions, political turmoil, pandemic and/or similar causes that may require changes to the itinerary. We and our providers reserve the right to cancel or postpone the tour prior to departure, in which case the refund policy is as follows:

  • If the tour is canceled 150 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you have made to us will be refunded minus a 10% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 120-149 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you have made to us will be refunded minus a 20% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 90-119 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you have made to us will be refunded minus a 40% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 60-89 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you have made to us will be refunded minus a 50% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 30-59 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you made to us will be refunded minus a 70% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled 15-29 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you made to us will be refunded minus an 80% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.
  • If the tour is canceled less than 15 days before the first day of the tour, any payment you made to us will be refunded minus a 90% cancellation fee within 30-60 days.

In the unforeseeable event that the tour was to be canceled while the tour is taking place, due to a pandemic or other causes beyond our control, no reimbursement of unutilized days of the tour may be returned to the participants – as these fees would be non reimbursed to Shaloha Productions.

Note: Lee Carroll has been traveling the world for over 30 years and has never missed an event or tour he was scheduled for and committed to. In the unforeseeable situation due to circumstances beyond his control that will prevent him from participating in the tour, we will do everything in our power to reschedule the tour to a different date; however, if we are not able to do so and the tour is cancelled, the same cancellation policy fees above will be applied.

If the tour is postponed to another date, any payments you have made will be applied to the new tour dates. If you are not able to attend the new rescheduled tour dates, the same cancellation policy fees above will be applied.

You waive the right to any further claims for compensation or damages, for any loss, consequential damage, expenses, or loss of time or inconvenience which may result from such cancellation. These terms, conditions, and policies may not be challenged nor negotiated. Herein you make a full agreement.

We will always do everything in our power to postpone a tour rather than cancel. Also, we will always strive to refund you as much of your funds as possible, taking everything into consideration at the time of cancelation. It is highly advisable that you obtain comprehensive Travel Insurance to recuperate any losses you may incur.
